| Audi 100 (C3) production in China from 1986 to 1988 the Shanghai
      Volkswagen Corporation in Shanghai assembled (semi knock down, parts made
      in Germany) the 1.8 liter Shanghai-Audi 100CC. The engine is the same as
      the one used in the Shanghai-Volkswagen Santana. Capacity 1781cc, bore x
      stroke 81.0 x 86.5mm, 66 kW/90hp. This engine is nowadays the basic SVW
      (Shanghai-VW) engine, made in China in great quantities.

            MODELS/YEAR 1988-1992 | August 1988 the FAW (First Auto Works) Branch Plant No.2 imported parts
      from Germany in a cooperative arrangement, to put 391 models FAW-Audi 100
      on the market. FAW is China’s oldest automobile factory, established in
      Changchun, Jilin province (Manchuria, North China).  in 1989 another 120 cars rolled off the assembly line. In 1992 there
      was the first serial production; 8.000 were made.This SKD
      (semi-knock-down) production is
      the start of an important relationship between Audi and the Chinese,
      developing in the present series of Hongqi (Red Flag) Audi derivatives.

      FAW: This model (v8 4.2) was also only made in very small quantities. The V6 engine
      from the C4 V6 was put in the C3 version, known as the 100 2.6E. In 1994 20.157 Audis were assembled, production dropped to 17.961
      in 1995.

            MODELS/YEAR 1996 | In 1996 the First Auto Works-Volkswagen factory, a joint venture
      company between FAW and Volkswagen A.G., started their own Audi
      production, independent from the FAW mother works. In this first year 518
      units were made. The basic FAW-VW Audi was named, FAW-VW Audi 200 1.8. The
      FAW-VW 200 1.8 was driven by the 1781cc Santana engine. The body was face lifted.
      FAW itself produced this year 8.152 units, mainly the 2598cc model, now
      renamed FAW-Audi c3 v6.
