Target groups: 128 disabled children at Thanh Tam School 150 disabled children at Vi Nhan School Other disabled children in Tra Kieu village (45 km to the south-west of Danang, Duy Son district, Quang Nam province and Hoi An district (28 km to the south-east of Danang), Phu Bon, Gia Rai, Kon Tum, Phan Thiet and Nha Trang.
4. Summary: Thanh Tam and Vi Nhan special schools are seeking sponsorship for 278 disabled children and teenagers in Danang and Daklak provinces and the surrounding area. The majority of the population living in these areas are poor peasants. We provide the disabled children with food and lodging, pay for their education costs and give them certain benefits. So far the only funding for Thanh Tam and Vi Nhan special schools has come from a limited budget granted by the St Paul of Chartres convent in Danang, but additional funds are necessary to employ teachers and specialists and to equip the classes and workshops properly. This aim of this project is to seek sponsorship to support the education and food programmes for disabled children in these establishments.
5. Activities: The best way of giving a child a helping hand towards the future is through sponsorship. The average cost of food and education for a disabled child at one of these schools is EUR 20 per month, so each child needs EUR 180 per school year (nine months). By giving EUR 20 a month you can support a child in four essential areas of life: health care, school, food and access to drinking water. Sponsor today and from tomorrow... - you will begin to get to know your sponsor child. We will send you a file containing a photograph of the child and providing basic details: age, health, status, favourite games, and so on; - an extraordinary bond will be created between you. You will be able to exchange letters, photographs, drawings, etc., thereby getting to know a child from a different culture to your own. Little by little, the bond between you will grow. If you wish, you will even be able to visit your sponsor child in Vietnam; - thanks to you, the child’s future will begin to take shape. Every year you will receive a detailed report on your sponsor child, including information about academic progress and health situation, so that you can appreciate what has changed, thanks to you, in that child’s life. We will also send you a news bulletin on the overall development programme (construction of schools, dispensaries and wells, training, agricultural progress, etc.) in the child’s community.
Frequently-asked questions: Is each child supported by only one sponsor parent? Yes. Can I write to my foster child? Can I visit him or her? Yes, you can write to your sponsor child. You can and even pay him or her a visit, allowing you to see exactly what has changed in the child’s life thanks to your sponsorship. How often will I receive a progress report on the child I am sponsoring? Once a year you will receive a detailed report on the child’s progress, together with news about the project in general. This will be provided directly by the office of the Thanh Tam and Vi Nhan special schools. How long does a sponsorship arrangement last? Generally, a sponsorship is for 10 to 15 years, until the foster child is no longer dependent on your financial help. After that you may, if you wish, help another child at one of the special schools. In principle, the arrangement envisages a sponsor providing financial support to a particular child over a period of several years. However, there is no specific time commitment on your part. We would simply ask you to maintain your support for as long as possible, and preferably for at least one year. Can I cancel my sponsorship? You can end your sponsorship at any time if you so wish. You will not be asked to give reasons or a period of notice. We will support your sponsor child until a new sponsor parent is found. It is also possible that your sponsor child may leave the project early, if, for example, the child’s family were to move to another area. In that case Thanh Tam and Vi Nhan special schools would request that you transfer your support to another child.
